The Spark
Some people have asked how do I come up with all these ideas.
The best piece of advice I can give is, build what you need. There is a lot of truth to the saying: “Necessity is the mother of invention” (Plato said it not me).
Most of the sites being developed over the 50 weeks of the project, are actually applications that will make our lives a little easier. The idea’s take tasks we complete on a daily or weekly basis and provide an easy mechanism for getting the same results.
For example, with Domain Log Book, I was manually keeping a track of the information that Domain Log Book collects and archives. I decided a web application that would do most of the repetitive parts automatically, that I would access from anywhere would be a great thing to have, and so the idea became reality.
Of course, you have to think about the market for your application (if that is something of concern to you). How many people have the same need as you. For many of the idea’s I’ve developed I’ve concentrated on solving a problem for one person … me, but as it turned out, many other people had the same problem I did.
But that is just my way, I’m sure other people have their own.
